• About Me

Hello, my name is MJ Schrader. Thank you for visiting and spending time with me.

This is my personal blog about random things. Many of my blogs are about growth, because "Helping You Find the Love Within" is what I do. But this is my blog, so it also has the randomness that makes life interesting and fun.

And Finally… Lent ends…

April 13, 2009 by MJ Schrader

This is the last “Let’s Eliminate Negative Thinking” post, (at least for a while). Today is purely off the cuff.  No carefully thought out plan of what this blog will cover. Here it is Lent, and my goal is to eliminate negative thinking. Yet, of late anger and deep frustration have been trying to push themselves into my day. So this blog will be about dealing with the “Negative Thinking” that arises from that.

A huge kink was thrown my way Friday, and caused me a great deal of pain. Because of certain situations, finishing my book has been stalled until after April 15th. Bummer because I was nearing completion. But work and my writing are in conflict.

Unfortunately it seems I don’t do enough work, never mind the more work I do, the more I get paid. Since I have plans to travel this summer, income is very important. Try as I might, the German blood in me begins to boil. Anger seeps into my being. Yet, as my blood boils I recall that blind anger is Negative Thinking.

How easy it would be to lash out, yell out my feelings. Another worker brags about her home business with every other client has worked on it at the office. Anything I have done has been done by my co-workers in forms. What I say and do is turned in and turned against me. It’s seems unfair.

Yet, this is part of life. Life is not fair. There are things that make us want to scream, that cause deep frustration, and make your anger flare. The easy route is to embrace those feelings and follow the instincts that follow.

No, I am not sleeping well, haven’t in over two weeks. But as I got called into the office again, my anger flared, and I caught myself. Closed my eyes for a brief moment, and realized “this too shall pass.” It was time to stop, think beyond this moment, and not create more negative thinking.

Follow my temper, then I would feel worse. Management would then be upset. My co-workers could then get into trouble. Then management, my co-workers and I would all go out into the world and spread more negative…

Wait.

That’s not a good thing.

Instead, I will embrace whatever they tell me. Hopefully my last three days of work will be extremely busy. When it’s not busy, I can think about things to write later. Maybe I can get in some reading. This week I will bring in some brownies. Maybe I’ll make some appetizer.

On April 15th I will thank my boss for another tax season. Pay my co-workers compliments. They are wonderful people. There is a great deal of beauty and love inside each of them. Rather than see the negative, I will choose. I choose to see all the wonder, and amazing values each of them brings. So “Let’s Eliminate Negative Thinking” by controlling the anger, frustration and choose to see the positive.

Love
MJ

Wanting a Membership Site

September 1, 2007 by MJ Schrader

Hey everybody, I need some opinions and need them FAST.

I am taking this online course on how to build a membership website.  Why?  Because I have a membership website that I want to build later on “Green Earth”, and I need the information this course will give me, on building a successful membership site.

In 30 days I am supposed to build a membership website and have the necessary content and and have members.  But here it is over 1/2 through the course and other than knowing there’s not enough content on the web for me to build the website I want in 30 days…  I haven’t figured much else out.

I picked out 4 topics (actually 12 but only 4 have made it to part 2).  And they are all membership sites, so I am asking some opinions here… which ones of the listed below sound interesting?

Which ones do you think someone might pay for on a monthly basis?

1. Improve your relationship - monthly articles and newsletters that help you build your relationship

2.  Diet and Excerise for over 30 – monthly articles to help lose weight and eat healthier

3.  Controlling Blood Sugar – for those with blood sugar issues (okay most of you are probably not interested but you know someone who has blood sugar issues.  I do and so does CE.)

4.  Network Marketing - Monthly help for those in Network Marketing

5.  Green Earth - articles about how to build low energy, reduce your energy usage, and reduce your chemical usage.  But there’s it not enough material currently for me to get this site built during class, so this is what I will build later.

Here are my other ideas, where I couldn’t find enough material in 30 days -  Green Health -improve your health with vitamins etc..   couldn’t find any materials Dog Trainers – got a friend (GS) in that biz  CafePress - that’s people who own a design store like I do (www.mylemonadeshop.com) Poker advice  - love Texas Hold’em.  Amateur Pilot – Private Investigation - Adoption and Episcopalian.

Got any other ideas?

I really want to pass this course with flying colors.  So I can have a successful website that will supplement my current income.  Plus if the site is successful, then it should help me earn enough to buy the material I need for my Green Earth site.

Plus it means that I can rely even less on my 2 very VERY UNSTABLE jobs.   Yes, I have 2 jobs and neither one is great.    One job they pay me far too little and want me to do more.  The boss is also extremely random, saying things that sometimes makes me wonder about mental stability .   Both jobs have me working with great co-workers.   But between the 2 I am barely able to pay bills, especially right now while CE is unemployed.

So I pray that I can get this membership site started for class, then build the membership site I really want.  (By the way, I wouldn’t charge my friends to join a membership site).

And next month my brother and his wife will be coming back from Macedonia for a few months.

It’s not easy being different

December 14, 2006 by MJ Schrader

They say it’s not easy being green, but being green is not that bad.  Okay I am talking green as in recycling and having a goal of a ZED house zero energy design.

But you know, I always have been different.  I was a bit shy as a kid, but not as much as people thought.  My problem is I am very introverted.  Most of the time I enjoy listening to stories and hearing what others have to say.  But I do get discouraged when people are talking and I say something and then someone else says the same thing and everybody agrees with them.

It’s happened quite a bit in my life.  But what really bothers me is that people think I don’t like them because I am not chatty.  Most people don’t give me a chance to be chatty.  it takes me a bit to warm up.  As for being shy, I have had to give speeches in front of the church I was going to several times when I was a volunteer youth minister.  Speeches on what the youth group was doing, what I was doing, even had to give my youth lesson to the WHOLE CHURCH twice. (I didn’t know before hand!)

Now I have found out that a family member or two apparently HATES that I am creative.  My not having my feet glued to the ground and wanting to NOT GO BACK TO BOOKKEEPING is stupid and I don’t deserve happiness or money.  What I don’t get is that money is required to pay bills, and bill collectors don’t like lent from my pocket.  And many people have jobs they enjoy, including these two together haven’t worked 1/2 as many jobs, and only combined do they get close to the years I put in as a bookkeeper, the job I hated.

But I love to write.  I like to draw, I love to paint, love music (just not that talented at that one) love to sing, dance, (not so much talented in either)  love to wrap music around me like a blanket, dive into a book like it’s the ocean, see the world from different eyes…

and I am good at math.. it’s why I went into bookkeeping.  Great reason huh.  I enjoy business but bookkeeping… no… not so much… and most people don’t understand

Dreaming of a Zero Energy Home

June 18, 2006 by MJ Schrader

Yes, I’m dreaming of a Zero Energy house.  Weird huh?  Okay maybe not a true Zero Energy, but a Energy Efficient house which would mean I could have a larger house that will use 25% of the energy of a normal house.  And with the ever increasing costs of Electricity and Gas, why not.  The expenses are now virtually the same as a standard home.

 What?  How?

I don’t have all the details yet, I am still collecting info.  But here are some odd things that are available.

1. SynBlue from www.SynLawn.com, which is a 10 year synthetic lawn and before you gasp in horror, this lawn was used at the Wynn Casino in Vegas.  Most people assume that it is a very manicured lawn. It will not be torn up by my Lab/Rott and won’t die from the shade trees, and won’t need water.

2. Recycled Glass Counter tops and floors from http://www.enviroglasproducts.com.  These counter tops have the look and feel of granite.  Made with pieces of glass that have been sorted into colors and a specific type of morter they can look however you like.  You can choose morter color and glass color and size. The floors are just as gorgeous.

3. www.trex.com porch or deck.  This porch will look like wood without the “greying” so I can have a beautiful red porch forever without having to repeatedly stain it.  These boards are actually stained recycled plastic, made to look like wood, and color dyed throughout.  This will last far longer than an average wood porch and because they actually are plastic there are more creative designs can be created. Like this leaf design:

4. A metal roof, like from www.muellerinc.com I actually have the copper roof right now.  A true 20 year roof unlike shingles.  If there is hail, the dents will pop out in the heat.  They are fire resistant, and reflective of the sun, very useful in Texas.

The rest I just know about, I haven’t researched yet

5. A geothermic heat/air unit.  This unit has about 20 feet of pipe 6 foot underground, to allow the ground to naturally heat and cool the air because 6 foot down maintains a standard temp.

6. A tankless water heater, which instantly heats the water as it comes to you.  This technology still needs tweaking.  But it is basically just a heater that heats the water as it comes to you.

7. ICF Insulated Concrete Forms, these walls are specifically poured on site.  They are extremely efficent in retaining internal temperature.  And the exterior can be styled to look like adobo, rock (like a castle) brick and more.  These walls will be fire resistant for 3 hours. One home survived Katrina while the houses on either side were demolished.

8.  Vinyl Triple Glazed Double Low E windows, aluminum conduct heat and cold, so some benefits are lost.  Vinyl won’t need painting and lasts longer with better energy efficiency.

9.  Rubber Mulch, which looks like regular wood mulch but it is made from “chewed” up tires.  So the tires are then dyed to various wood shades, like red wood, oak, or colored mulch.  While it costs 2 to 3 times the price of regular mulch it lasts a lifetime.

So far that is all the info I have.  Weird huh, back to the 70’s with the Mother Earth News.
